What is EMDR Therapy and how does it work?

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of therapy and has gained recognition and widespread use for its effectiveness in treating problems like PTSD, anxiety, depression, and phobias. EMDR involves the person recalling distressing memories while the therapist guides them through bilateral stimulation, such as side-to-side eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones. This process is thought to help reprocess the traumatic memories and reduce their emotional impact. In EMDR we address the negative beliefs associated with the trauma and help to develop new more balanced ways of thinking about ourselves.
